You can’t speak of style and not mention grooming. Consider the two twins, each has its unique identity but can’t imagine living life with one and not the other. Let’s face it, your style can be aesthetically appealing making you memorable in a job interview (I speak from experience, the interview that lead to my current 9-5), the go to guy in your circle for style tips, a social media model or influencer or simply attracting a potential mate. But once folks get past the visual and get to the………nasal, you can lose ground on the aforementioned examples and more. In the spirit of honesty, you wouldn’t want to hug, stand next to, sit across from, go on a date with someone who doesn’t smell good. So why would they want to do that with you if you don’t smell good? Do yourself the biggest favor and compliment your fly look with a dope scent. I like to keep things simple so I have my everyday fragrances and my special “night out” fragrances, let’s dissect these two real quick.
There are numerous articles out there that suggest germs live on bar soaps. I’ve used them growing up but recently switched body wash, not because I’m a germaphobe or I have sensitive skin and a history of eczema(which I do), they just smell better and the scent seems to last longer. That’s it. No science backing the switch (see? Simple guy). I rotate body wash once there are done, I just finished my Every Man Jack Mint body wash and now I’m on Old Spice Swagger, in a couple weeks it’ll be something else. Other than that I have the axe spray, no real loyalty to a particular scent of that spray line, they all smell decent to me. Then I got my Dove Men roll on. Admittedly I didn’t buy this, they were giving free sample at my gym so I grabbed 1. Or 2. Ok I got 3, they were free! I use this a lot because I sweat a lot even in cold New England Winter weather so you can imagine when the weather gets warmer. This scent seems to last longer than the axe spray. Now when it comes to powders, I haven’t really used them much especially for my man parts. Didn’t know you could powder down there until I came across this company called Chassiss (pronounced cha-sis, not kay-sis as I said in the video smh) at Stylecon 2017 in Atlanta GA where I met the founder of the company, Ben Wilder, and he was kind enough to give me a sample to try itout. The idea of powdering my Johnson seemed weird but I gave it a shot. Considering the fact that that part of your body gets heated and my cause some odor, the Chassiss powder is a welcome relief to that problem. Keeps you dry and fresh, preventing chaffing (for you guys with huge quads), the Chassiss powder prevents odor from a very overlooked part of our body. Whoever is going to be close enough to get a whiff, let it not be a bad one. They’ve made it that far, might as well go all the way :)
Special “night out” Fragrances
So I got a hot date tonight with this girl I’ve been eyeing for a while. We’ve chit chatted here and there but I finally asked her out and she said yes. I’m super pumped! I know what I’m going to wear, I know where we’re going, everything is all planned out in the spirit of having fun. But fragrance do I want her to smell when we hug, sit close to each other, walk next to each other? Surely not my every fragrance, other than the body wash. Yep, I shower again, not taking any chances here. After the shower, I bring out the big dogs, the grown and sexy fragrance that would make her want to be next to me all night. In comes my Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue. A very subtle scent that is both manly and sensual. It lets your presence be known without it being overbearing. From trial and error, subtle scents are for me. So is the Joseph Abboud. I actually got a date out of this one. I went to the bar by myself one day after work and I had the JA on. I sparked a conversation with a young lady, she caught a whiff of it, called her girl friends to come over to specifically “smell me”, next thing I know I’m surrounded by 4 chicks just sniffing me and admiring my aroma. Have you ever been sniffed by a group of girls? Quite the ego stroke, my friends. Both D&G and JA are toilettes meaning that their concentration level is not as strong as a parfum like the Polo Blue. See illustration below. Speaking of Polo Blue, even though I’m into subtle scents, I absolutely love this parfum. The first thought that came to my mind is if I’m going to a wedding, black tie event or some very formal event, I’m putting that on! If you are looking for that masculine, grown and sexy scent, this is it. In fact the entire Polo Color Line is pretty awesome and would recommend either one, I just happened to get my hands on Blue.
Where To Apply Fragrance
Alright, before we get into what we should do let’s first talk about what you shouldn’t. Spray into the air and “walking” into it? What a waste. Spray on your clothes? It will ruin it and from experience, nothing worse that having an avoidable stain on your shirt and have people point it out. Spray all over? Never! Even with the toilettes that don’t have that much concentration, if you put too much in an attempt to smell good, you’ll actually be repulsive. So you can imagine with a higher concentration like a parfum. This segways into where should you apply it. Directly on your skin on two of the following areas: Chest, neck, wrist, under the arms and shoulders. Again, you don’t want to overwhelm the people around you that’s why I chose two areas and my go to areas are ones that I know their noses will be near when we come into close contact like a hug or handshake.
At it’s basic level, this is just plain hygiene. Start with a shower, scrub areas that tend to sweat a lot and produce odor i.e arm pit, crotch and do yourself a favor and be clean. I’m sure there are studies out there that prove this but I don’t need studies to tell me that when I smell good, my confidence and self esteem goes up a few notches and those rare times when I don’t smell good, I’m super self conscious and do what I have to do to correct the situation post haste! Oh btw, no matter how great a fragrance is, it's not enough to mask body odor that's why I've subtly repeated taking a shower through this article. It's important. You'd think it goes without saying but I've met some guys who tried pulling the deodorant over body odor act and it back fired. Don't be that guy.
