You know him for his high intense action movies, comedic roles, insane gym regiment, and if you are my age (32) you remember him as the eye brow raising, rock bottom slamming, candy ass kicking wrestler from the WWF in the 90s. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is known for many things but his style has caught my attention in recent years. He has been subtly killing the red carpets and movie/drama scenes with sartorial splendor yet also putting us on notice with his casual wear. So how does he do it? How does a man that ripped seem to find clothes that fit him so perfectly it can make sartorialist worldwide nod in approval? I figured this can be a fun post to do since he is a fit guy, there may be a thing or two we can learn and apply in our own style journey. First we are going to look at the fit or his formal and semi formal wear then we'll look at his casual style. First let's identify what he is. He is an ectomorph like me, broad shoulders, slim waist, upside down triangle. Alright, let's start with the coat, be it a suit jacket, sport coat, Tux jacket or dinner jacket. My man got some huge shoulders! But notice how the coats just fall natural on them. With his size and having a few millions in the bank I'm positive, alot if not all of his clothes are custom made. That's a very important point to make. You don't have to be a millionaire to get a custom suit, there are many affordable ways to get your hands on affordable custom ( Black Lapel, Indochino, Men's Wearhouse), but going custom gives you the opportunity for the jacket to fall naturally according to your shoulder. But say you can't go custom, what can you do? First know your size and then try various off the rack brands. From experience various brands fit me different so find the best one that closely falls naturally on your shoulders and stay loyal to it. Next is his lapel size. I have broad shoulders. He has broad shoulders. A wide lapel perfectly compliments men with broad shoulders. Again if you can go custom, opt for a wide lapel whether notch or peak. If it's off the rack it's going to be hard because alot of brands are going with a "modern" look and those tend to have thinner lapels. Endomorphs don't have broad shoulders so a thin lapel will work. Either way, tie width has to match the lapel width. Other aspects of the jackets to note are: 1) Sleeve length - shorten enough to show some cuff 2) Buttons not pulling - no X in the middle when he buttons his jacket 3) Length - when he relaxes his arm, his palm falls perfectly at the end of the length as it should. Rule of thumb is if you can grip the bottom of the coat it's perfect, if you can't it's either too long or too short. The bane of our existence for fit guys, pants. Having watched a few of his fitness videos, I know Dwayne got some massive quads and well defined calves. His pants seem to fit perfectly around his small waist, nicely around his quads and seem to have a not so tapered flow down to his calves which may appear to look baggy. Works for him, I think his pants would look weird if it fit comfortably around his quads but tapered at his calves. Of course custom can get you a pair of pants that fit you with no bagginess or pulling of the fabric but if you're going for off the rack, consider some pleated pants that would give you room around your quads and nowadays they have slim fit pleated pants if you really like the tapered leg look. A very important aspect to note is his pants length.A man's pants length should depend on his height. According to google, Dwayne's height is 6'5 so the best length for him is a full break which is consistent in all of his red carpet pics. A full break is when there is slightly more material at the bottom where the pants meet the shoe creating a small fold. The reason for this being his legs being long leg make the folds look not too much and besides, as I mentioned, his pants aren't tapered around the calves. They are wide enough to fit his quads and it flows down making it a wide legged pants and full breaks are best for that. He would look crazy with a no break pants! The formal wear tends to cover up the curves of his physique but give an overall great silhouette. His casual game is where he gets to show off results of those countless hours in the gym. I see alot of long and short sleeve henleys and V-neck shirts in his pics which make sense. Henleys and V-necks are great from fit guys because not only does the opening in the front show off their chest and shoulders it also flatters their facial structure. That's one lesson to learn: find out what works for you and run with it. His outer casual wear also produces the same result, showing off his physique. Alot of slim fit clothing will do that for the average man but be careful when shopping, all slim fit aren't created equal. I don't see anything other than jeans when it comes to his casual pants. He's a jeans guy, very Americana. There are brands out there such as Barbell Apparel that make jeans and chinos geared toward the fit guy but also consider Gap, Levis and Joseph Abboud for their stretch jeans/chinos selections. Final $0.02 I tell you, Dwayne has come a long way from him turtleneck and fanny pack days (he will never live that down) but his style now is one to be heralded and respected. Find someone who is of a similar build for example if you are an endomorph look at Cristian Ronaldo and just pay attention to how they dress, take a few pointers and create your own style.

Fit Man Problems. I know the struggle bro @therock

All American bad ass!

Formal/Semi Formal Wear

First let's identify what he is. He is an ectomorph like me, broad shoulders, slim waist, upside down triangle. Alright, let's start with the coat, be it a suit jacket, sport coat, Tux jacket or dinner jacket. My man got some huge shoulders! But notice how the coats just fall natural on them. Dress Shirts

Have you seen the size of this dude's arms? How the heck does he get shirts to fit? Well, custom is the theme throughout this post and if you REALLY got money like he does, go bespoke. It's hard to fit guys with bulging biceps with off the rack shirts, I know from my experience as wardrobe consultant at Men's Wearhouse assisting some football players. However, there is a way around that. I have had a couple off the rack shirts slightly altered by a tailor and they fit close to custom. The collar on a dress shirt should accentuate your facial structure. Dwayne has an oval shaped face with a strong jawline, so what type of collar styles go well with that? Narrow collars, which seem to be consist with what he wears. With an oval shaped face, it is so symmetrical he can pretty much wear any collar style but I hardly see him wear anything but a narrow collar. Works perfectly for him.

Pants/Slacks

The bane of our existence for fit guys, pants. Having watched a few of his fitness videos, I know Dwayne got some massive quads and well defined calves. Final $0.02

I tell you, Dwayne has come a long way from him turtleneck and fanny pack days (he will never live that down) but his style now is one to be heralded and respected. Find someone who is of a similar build for example if you are an endomorph look at Cristian Ronaldo and just pay attention to how they dress, take a few pointers and create your own style.
