SUMMER, SUMMER SUMMERTIME! According to the calendar, we are almost in summer even though New England weather has a mind of it's own (as I write this it's 44 degrees outside). But summer time brings great events, concerts, bonfires, beach trips and one of my favorites: day parties. Day parties are more popular in the summer and of course! Who want's to go trekking through knee deep snow, all bundled up to a day party? Sunny days always seems to bring the cheerfulness in people and where else will you get a great opportunity to socialize, network in soak in that vitamin D than at a day party. In this blog I'll go through 3 ways to dress for day parties from super casual to dressy(refraining from saying formal) featuring a summer accessory that is a must, sunglasses provided by the good folks over at woodies.
Tank Top, Shorts and Boat Shoes
Nothing says laid back casual than a nice tank top, I'll opt for a graphic one instead of a plain color to give your outfit more character. Summer time is the season for shorts, we will now see who has been skipping leg day. And of course boat shoes have long been a summer time staple, very comfortable and easy to slip in and out of and if the day party happens to be on a boat then you're ahead of the game.
Button Down Shirt, Shorts and Canvas Shoes
In a past blog post, contextual style I spoke about the importance of dressing in the context you're in, we're in the summer so I'll chose a light fabric like cotton, linen or chambray for the shirt. the lightweight fabrics will give it breathability and if you want more you can loosen a couple buttons. Shorts, as mentioned before are great for the summer. Canvas are also a great summer shoe but this is an outfit that can also work with a pair of loafers. Whether you're wearing canvas shoes, loafers and even boats shoes as mentioned before, always wear no show socks to prevent stinky feet.
Light Cotton Jacket, V-neck Shirt, Chinos and Chelsea Boots
This is the somewhat dressy part. Maybe it's an uppity day party you have been invited too, I'd rock the coat for formality but keep it casual with the V-neck shirt, chinos and suede chelsea boots. I'd compensate for the lack of tie and tie bar for a small lapel pin and pocket square. Sophisticasual anyone?
Wooden accessories have been becoming more popular in the recent years from bracelets, to watches, chains and now sunglasses. Every woodies sunglasses is made from different wood so no two look alike. I've had issues with sunglasses in the past where they don't last after a few wears but these sunglasses look and feel robust. A cool part to these sunglasses are the double spring hinges that allow the temple of the frames to flex out more than your usual glasses. Ever taken your glasses off and you see the indented line on the side of your head? Yea, won't have that problem with these because the temple flexes out to fit your face. As with all sunglasses, these also offer the 100% UVA protection from the sun. Speaking of wooden accessoies, check out the woodies website, they offer more than just wooden sunglasses.
Loose and fun is the theme for this summer. Be loose with the clothing while also having fun with it while going to fun activities. Add a bit of personality to your wardrobe with accessories that are not only conversation starters but stylish as well. You've been bundled up all winter and fall, let loose and have fun. You deserve it.
